Founder Background

College Web Media first opened its doors in 1993 as Rude Records Entertainment, founded by Rudy Chavarria, Jr. and operated on a shoestring budget. Rude Records signed and distributed ska-punk bands out of Orange County, CA. But even before that, Rudy started as a studio runner and assistant back in 1987 at the world-famous A&M Studios (now the Jim Hanson Studios) in Hollywood, California.

It was there that Rudy learned the ropes as a recording engineer by working closely with acclaimed engineer Shelly Yaukus (U2, Tom Petty, Van Morrison, Fleetwood Mac, John Lennon, and many others).

Rudy then went to work at the prominent Christian record label Frontline Music Group in promotions and marketing. It was at Frontline where friend and associate Norman Winter of Norman Winter Public Relations (Bob Dylan, Barbra Streisand, Michael Jackson, NWA, And Bob Marley) Called Rudy and asked if he would be interested in promoting a new Bob Marley CD. Rudy was then introduced to music mogul Danny Sims. Sims, publisher of Cayman Music and then owner of the Bob Marley catalog, interviewed Rudy over the phone and hired him on the spot. He told Rudy, "My product is not selling, and I want you to change that.” When Rudy told him, "We need to take these CDs to the college world," Sims gave Rudy free reign. Rudy hired a staff of college students, and they went to work. Within eight weeks, the CD went from #54 on the Navarre Distribution Sales Sheets to #1.

After mastering the art of promoting and marketing music, Rudy changed the name to American AMP expanded its scope and its client base to include private institutions of learning and blockbuster major motion pictures: The Passion of the Christ, NARNIA, United 93, ROCKY BALBOA, OLDBOY, The Puffy Chair, BIG HERO 6, War for the Planet of the Apes, and Nat Geo's MARS, and VALLEY OF THE BOOM (2019) to name a few.

American AMP is now College Ed Tech, LLC.
